Tar deposits directly into the lungs each time a cigarette is inhaled. It is estimated that 1/2 kg of tar each year is deposited in the lungs of someone smoking 20 or more tobacco cigarettes a day.
Carbon Monoxide is a poisonous gas emitted from car exhaust pipes, but is also found in high levels of concentration in tobacco cigarette smoke. A 20 or more a day cigarette smoker can have up to a 10 times higher carbon monoxide level than that of a non-smoker. High levels of carbon monoxide reduces circulation and leads to the clogging of arteries.
