Site Managers, Project Managers, Health and Safety Advisors, and workers have welcomed the use of electronic cigarettes on building sites where as many as 1 in 4 of the work force may smoke.
The introduction of the smoking ban prevented workers from smoking in indoor areas including the 'brew' cabin. It is true, before the ban these cabins would become fog filled rooms at lunchtime with second hand smoke choking any non-smoker. Passive smoking has always been the primary concern of the smoking ban but some companies have imposed further restrictions on site workers - banning smoking anywhere on site.
Workers can use Electronic cigarettes without restriction.
The e cigarette is non-flammable. There are no messy cigarette butts to clean up and buckets of sand do not need to be provided for stubbing out cigarettes. No second hand smoke from the cigarettes allows it to be used in cabins, offices and any public area around non-smokers. Electronic cigarettes or E cigarettes as some people call them, are becoming more popular on building sites. They may help to increase performance ensuring a happier smoking work force.
