Glossary of Terms for the e-cigarette and other phrases associated with using electronic cigarettes.
Analog (Analogue) Cigarettes - The name given to normal or traditional tobacco cigarettes by those who now use an electronic cigarette instead.
Atomiser (US: Atomizer) - The 'old fashioned' outdated types of electronic cigarette, still sold by some e cigarette companies, require atomisers. The atomiser attaches to the battery and is used in conjuncion with a cartridge. The atomizer is a micro-heating element which turns the liquid inside a cartridge into vapour. Separate old type Atomisers are prone to malfunctions and have become unpopular with electronic cigarette users. The new type of electronic cigarette does not require a separate atomiser. Atomisers are also used on a multitude of products from perfume bottles to cooking sprays.
Cartomiser (US: Cartomizer) - A new type of cartridge combined with a disposable atomizer designed to prevent leakage and evaporation. Cartomizers are considered to be more reliable and economical. A cartomizer is equal to around 40 traditional cigarettes.
Cartridge - The cartridge stores the nicotine solution that will be turned into vapour via the the atomiser. The old type of cartridges require a separate atomiser. Cartridges are prone to leaks and evaporation. A cartridge is equal to around 9 traditional cigarettes.
Electronic Cigarette - A battery powered device that vaporises a nicotine solution which is then inhaled as vapour rather than producing smoke from combustion. Also known as the ecig, e cigarette, electric cigarette and personal vaporiser.

E-Juice - See E-Liquid.
E-Liquid - Also known as E-Juice. A DIY liquid nicotine solution for the electronic cigarette. E-liquid is not compatible with VIP Electronic Cigarette automatic batteries.
LED - The tip of the electronic cigarette is a light which glows red when the user inhales to resemble an analog cigarette.
Personal Vaporiser - Another name for the electronic cigarette popular among users who want to prevent any confusion with analog cigarettes.
Throat Hit - A term used to describe the sensation and feeling the vapour provides when inhaled.
Vaping - The term applied to replace the phrase 'smoking' of an electronic cigarette. Many users refer to themselves as 'vapers' and not smokers.
Vapour (Vapor) - This is inhaled and exhaled by the user. Vapour delivers the nicotine, flavouring and sensation often referred to as 'the Throat Hit'.
